From the inexhaustible creative flair of Javier Girotto and the talents of theAlma Saxophone Quartet comes the new record from Parco della Musica Records. The experience of an international soloist and the skill of four young talents meet and shake hands to create a fresh and compelling project full of sounds and emotions. The disc includes eleven compositions by the great jazz musician arranged for saxophone quartet, including new releases and adaptations of some famous pieces from his repertoire. Tango, Argentina’s national dance and musical genre of choice, is here declined in multiple forms and styles, from the vibrant rush of “Andantango” to the jaunty vitality of Force of Nature, from passionate and ethereal melodies such as Condor-“Kuntur” to exotic and sophisticated rhythms such as “Colyseus”; all accompanied by iconic songs such as “The Moon and The Poem.” The saxophone quartet forms the backbone of the pieces, alternating poignant melodies with daring virtuosic passages, and spreads a sound carpet over which the soloist improvises freely from time to time. An overwhelming energy emanates from the interaction between quartet and soloist, enveloping and exciting the listener.
