Imagining the invisible

What does matter look like? How are we able to study objects we cannot see? How do we imagine them? This educational workshop focuses on the structure of matter, particularly atoms and quarks. Starting with a general description of the constituents of an atom, we will discuss the dimensions of these structures and talk about how it is possible to study objects that we cannot see with our eyes and the models/images we use to visualize them. We will try to understand how much these models/images correspond to reality and how much they differ from it. We will propose several demonstration experiences and some playful-learning activities to be carried out in the classroom.
