Sting

Composer, singer, actor, author and activist-Sting was born in Newcastle, England, and moved to London in 1977; there he formed the Police together with Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers. The band has released five albums, won 6 Grammys, 2 Brits and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. Known as one of the world's most distinctive solo artists, Sting received 11 Grammys, 2 Brits, 1 Golden Globe, 1 Emmy, 4 Oscar nominations (including one for "The Empty Chair" in 2017), a TONY nomination, Billboard Magazine's Century Awards, and MusiCares Person of the Year in 2004. In 2003 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his myriad contributions to music. He is also a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and in 2014 received the Kennedy Center Honors, one of the most prestigious awards in the United States, and the Polar Music Prize. Sting has also been awarded the Doctor of Music degree by Northumbria University (1992), Berklee College of Music (1994), University of Newscastle upon Tyne (2006) and Brown University during the 250th Graduation Ceremony (2018). During his long career, Sting has sold nearly 100 million albums (between albums released with the Police and solo albums).
